In Uganda, medical care is not free. Those living in the slums have no insurance, nor any way to pay for their medical care. When a woman is about to give birth, and she goes to the hospital or calls the midwife she is expected to provide the materials necessary for a successful delivery. If she doesn't provide it there will be nothing for whoever is giving the care to use. As you can imagine many women might bring dirty towels or rags, perhaps a dull knife that was in someones pocket just a few minutes ago. As one of our ministries the IMFC provides free of charge to the women who are in our program - Maama Kits.
